Hands-On Youth Learning
KNOX is dedicated to enriching students’ awareness of Hartford’s natural resources and helping them understand more about food production and the health benefits of fresh local produce.
Through our educational initiative, students can see, touch, and taste a wide array of produce—and many receive their first experience growing food.
Our programming provides hands-on experiences to over 800 Hartford youth, grades K through 5, with in-school and after-school educational opportunities.
Throughout the school year, engaging topics including gardening, composting, waste reduction, seed germination, healthy eating, maple tapping, and growing seasons are taught weekly at several Hartford Public Schools.
Summer programming takes place with several local youth serving organizations in Hartford. Designed to serve all students, the interactive curriculum focuses on critical and creative thinking and channeling the inherent creativity of play.
