KNOX provides hands-on experiences to over 800 Hartford youth, grades K – 5.
ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION
Exciting topics like gardening, composting, waste reduction, seed germination, healthy eating, maple tapping, and growing seasons are taught in grades Kindergarten – 5 at several Hartford Public Schools through weekly lessons throughout the school year.
Summer programming happens with several local youth-serving organizations in Hartford. Designed to serve all students, the interactive curriculum focuses on critical and creative thinking, and channeling the inherent creativity of play.
Our program gives many students their first experience growing food and lets them see, touch, and taste a wide array of produce.
Programming consists of a combination of after-school educational opportunities and in-school programming.
Through this work, we hope to enrich students’ awareness of Hartford’s natural resources, their understanding of food production, how fresh local produce improves health, and their appreciation and sense of belonging to the world around them.
