Job Title: Tree Care Coordinator
Reports To: Director of Landscape Operations & Business Development
Part-Time: 20 Hours/week

businesses, and government, providing leadership to build stronger, greener, and healthier and more beautiful neighborhoods in
Hartford.

The Tree Care Coordinator works to assess and track the health of trees in Hartford with a focus in the Asylum Hill
Neighborhood. The position will take the lead on developing a tree maintenance plan, as well as coordinating a comprehensive
assessment of the tree canopy in the Asylum Hill neighborhood in coordination with the 2020 Hartford Tree Canopy Plan. This
will include collaborating with KNOX staff and tree assessment apprentices, conducting outreach throughout the Hartford
community, entering tree information into data systems (TreeKeeper), coordinating engagement of volunteers and apprentices in
canopy assessment activities, and conducting tree monitoring activities to include tree identification and health assessment.

RESPONSIBILITIES
● Conduct outreach throughout Asylum Hill neighborhood to conduct comprehensive canopy assessment.
● Recruit apprentices and volunteers from Asylum Hill neighborhood to assist in canopy assessment activities.
● Provide oversight to apprentices and volunteers engaged in Canopy Assessment
● Monitor trees recently planted by KNOX and recommend maintenance required to ensure they stay healthy.
● Perform neighborhood canvasing to conduct tree identification and assess tree health.
● Manage and perform data entry for city-wide data system, TreeKeeper.
● Coordinate training on tree identification and health in conjunction with content experts.
● Identify hazardous trees to recommend for removal, as well as potential planting locations.
● Assist in organization of tree maintenance projects for volunteers, apprentices, and KNOX staff.
● Support KNOX tree care and planting efforts.
● Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
● Commitment to KNOX’s mission and to fostering a culture of teamwork and respect.
● Experience and interest in tree care and identification
● Ability to present information effectively, both verbally and in writing.
● Aptitude to learn custom software systems for storing data.
● Demonstrated ability to work effectively with neighborhood residents and advocates.
● Experience collaborating on highly performing teams.
